Yep, the Nissan RB26 is a direct evolution of this motor, so much so they are virtually identicle in alot of their workings. They are also reportidly very happy to rev high 8-)

It is a very compact motor, much smaller than the SR20. IDEAL motor for your car!!

I thought it might be compact not sure about the turbo plumbing though and whats involved in that and how much room it could take up, I will ask the auction owner for some measurements on height and width. It has the exhuast on the right side so thats a plus right now.

I think that the Ford Duratec engines are right-hand exhaust (as viewed from the drivers seat).

Looking at the Westfield site, it looks as though the Zetec 2l might be left-hand exhaust. I have heard of the differences between Duratecs and Zetecs, but can't remember. Is it that Zetec is Ford, and Duratec is Ford/Mazda (as in found in 3's & 6's as well)?

Hi all,
Yes the Zetec is a left hand exit, common engine size is 1.8 and 2.0 lt, cast iron block and produces 107 kws in standard Ford tune. Popular in the U.K in kit cars with a huge amount of go fast bits available from the well known engine tuners, Raceline, Cosworth ,Minister etc.
The 7 engine of choice. The Duratec is a newer Ford/Mazda engine available in I think 1.3,1.6,1.8,2.0,and 2.3 lt 4 cylinder and 2.5 and 3.0 lt V6 in a huge range of Ford/Mazda cars Focus, Fiesta, Mondeo, Ranger, Mazda 2,3 and 6 etc. The block and head are cast Aluminum and therefore lighter than the Zetec. Has a cast brace supporting the the crank bearings giving a very strong and rigid bottom end. Very popular here in Australia with Birkin, Prb, Westfield, Caterham etc all fitting Duractecs as standard in there cars. The 2.0 lt produces (148hp)109 kws in standard Ford tune.Exhaust exits on the right(drivers) side.
I have a Duratec(2.0lt) fitted in my Birkin with standard Ford factory ECU,injection and airbox fitted and obviously extractors fitted. I have a Dreamscience flash tuner/code reader for the ECU with the mildest tune increasing the hp to 170 hp. This is a very mild tune at present and I know that standard Ford Focus with the Duratec fitted in the U.K producing 175/180hp after reflashing the ECU and still running the factory injection and exhaust with cat still fitted. It will be interesting to see what horsepower I can get running all the standard Ford gear and just tuning the ECU? Again a huge amount of go fast bits available, probably more than the zetec.
Check out the engine build on the 2nd link, if only it was so easy, but who needs a manual to build an engine now!
Cheers
Maurice
