Easy solution! Buy the Chevron and take it to pieces while he's away. Then you'll have a kit that you know will go together and all the pieces are definately there! :D

Another reasonably priced option for you.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Other/Chevron/auction-276336229.htm

Just requires a tidy up.
looks like it's got plenty of foot room with the side pod on the drivers side!

The car in the link appears to be a NZ-made Lynx. About 100 of these were made in Auckland in the 1980s based on Triumph Herald chassis, usually Herald running gear but Toyota and Datsun engines as well.

Friends in Chch recently put one back on the road that had been in storage for some years after shedding a rear wheel at speed. They did a nice job and painted it in gun metal metallic which looks very good. This one has a Datsun OHV engine with dellorto carbs which sounds a bit like a Healey (Datsun copied Austin engines in the early days).

From my ride in the car I felt that the car was quite vintage in feel, in comparison to more accurate Lotus 7 copies. The seating position is quite compromised with a high floor and little legroom (I'm 180cm).

The looks aren't to everyones tastes, quite narrow and tall with a big bonnet bulge/scoop that doesn't appear to be needed (at least with the Datsun engine). The windscreen surround is quite uncompromising and dominates the car, accentuating its height. I think it would look much better with aero screens and cycle guards.

A while ago someone was selling a full race version on Trademe and I think the price was over $10k. Road versions come up for sale quite often, just recently there was complete working one for sale on the West Coast and I think the asking price was around $4k but I might be mistaken. I'm not sure these are particularly easy to sell.

Anyhow, have great fun checking out 7s and welcome aboard!

Farther, sir i totaly aggre with the majority, an old LYNX or any other triumph chassied seven has the ridgitity of a peice of spagetti, unfortunate but a fact of life and shouldnt be allowed on the road in my veiw.
the Chevron, well I'm sure Evan wont mind me saying , as ive owned one, suffers a weight penalty, and is basic, but you get what you pay for, but they can be altered and improved to handle and perform bloody well as there are some rather quick ones around testament to that .
they of course dont have the resale that a Fraser or a Macgregor has but they are a very good and safe entry level car that can be purchased for reasonable money. thoroughly reccomended .
cheers Kaspa

Old man here again

and many thanks again for the responses, we bought the green one on page one of this post, :D and we will be taking up the offers to meet up with locals etc, especially as we want to relocate the handbrake (it's outside and on the right which is a nuisance if you want to use the sidescreens), and have plans to put the cycle wings on.

Yep, it's basic, but so far it's fun, where does everyone get insurance from? our other vehicles are done through the AA and they want an alarm/immobiliser fitted.

I think I'll get my own login on the forum, to avoid confusion.
