2010 Events: The Southern Festival of Speed

Postby Ledzep » Thu Jan 14, 2010 7:16 pm

You've missed out the highlight of the Canterbury classic motor racing year:

The Southern Festival of Speed
The SKOPE Classic is the first of the Southern Festival of Speed [SFOS] events covering the South Island of New Zealand in February each year.
The SKOPE Classic is organised by the Mainland Classic Committee in conjunction with the Canterbury Car Club who own and operate the Powerbuilt Tools Ruapuna Raceway, on the outskirts of Christchurch City.
The Southern Festival of Speed Series has been running as a Historic and Classic racing series since 1989 with hundreds of competitors from all over the world bringing their cars to New Zealand to re-enact the famous “down under” racing of the 60s, and 70s.
The 2010 SKOPE Classic will be held on the 5th, 6th and 7th February on the Powerbuilt Tools Ruapuna circuit. The 2010 event will focus on Pre 65 Saloon Cars and the usual array of historic single seaters, saloon and vintage cars. The second SFOS series event is on the smaller Levels Circuit, Timaru held the following weekend 12th/13th/14th February and then on to the wider flowing Teretonga circuit on the outskirts of Invercargill on the 19th/20th/21st February.

Classic Car Run March 21st

Postby Ledzep » Wed Feb 24, 2010 5:58 pm

Here's an update I recently received re the North Canterbury Classic Car Run. Start is at the Janel coffee lounge New Brighton, gathering any time after 9am. Cost usually $10 per car. I'll post the final update when I receive it.

See ya,

Tom

Well here we are just (a few) weeks to go before our 8th annual North Canterbury Classic Tour, on Sunday March 21st. Unfortunately, The Star newspaper, has gone and shifted it’s “City to Surf” fun run back to the 3rd Sunday in March!! (I checked with them six or so months ago and was told the 28th). x#%@!

This years event could well be the best yet, given a fine day. We have put a lot of work into this one. The 30 questions are all route related or answers can be found at our lunch break, which is a small country village. Food and drinks can be purchased via the P.T.A. of the country school we will be having our lunch at. Please support them. No questions on history or TV programmes as has been in the past, so everybody has an equal opportunity to win subscriptions to New Zealand Classic Car magazine.

Please remember that this event is an all day tour, so fuel up before the day. (No fuel available until about ¾ way through the day!). Finally, our final destination is at a newish North Canterbury café, where every driver and crew member, will be entitled to a free coffee or tea, plus a superb meal discounted down to $11.95. Beer and wine also available.

Same start time and venue as per the past seven years, but details next month.
See you all on the 21st March.

Hi

You just missed the Pukekohe "swap meet" which is an annual event.
Don't know how good it is these days.
Trade me and a few of the uk kit car sites are probably your best option for parts.

Cheers

For those intersted in the upper North Island
Sports Car club of NZ annual Easter Sprint will be held at Pukekohe Park Raceway on Easter Sunday, 4th April 2010. Usally a few 7's at this event .... hopefully the only Stalker in NZ (Florida built 7 with a buick 3.4l v6) will be there :D
