I have a 2002 Westfield SE with Cortina uprights; Ford Transit upper ball joint; Cortina lower ball joint & Escort steering tie rod. I need a new set of wishbones made up. Has anything changed in the past 15 years re design or should I just get the new ones made using the old ones as a template? Will comply with LVVTA requirements re material / sizes etc :? . I have 60 mm from the upper wishbone to the centre of the ball joint (lock nut inclusive) - seems a bit excessive for adjustment - should the upper wishbone be longer; is there a better method for adjustment?

This is a question fraught with a few unknowns. Whilst you could probably get new replicas made of your current a arms made and no one would ever be the wiser.
The best/safest would be to contact frasers / macgreggors / leitch whom ever is closer have them get design approval build and xray the new arms through the official routes this way you will be safe in the knowledge your new arms meet the tougher lvvta requirments for custom independent front suspension.

Thanks for the info. My paperwork is with the TAC this month so will wait for their comments. Know I need new wishbones and also balljoints (rubbers perished) which Mr Repco can supply (but only 1 Transit joint in the country) so considering upgrading uprights etc to something more modern (reduced weight). No point in getting wishbones from overseas as they are MIG welded - so agree with you - buy local from someone who knows what is required and can supply the paperwork to get through the system and back on the road.

Going to the Oz Clubbie Nationals in Jindabyne in November, but hope to have our car on the road before then - if I stroke the paintwork anymore she will need a complete respray!! :cry:

I'm in the same situation as you. Transit tie rod end and I want to replace upper wishbones to the same design. There is a recent thread in General Sevens Chat under "reality check". I've got the hobby car manual and I've also read the lvvta info sheet on suspension. I think that the transit tie rod end is ok but to be sure I'm going to get lvvta design approval. Then get them made and crack tested. I'd be interested if you choose a different course. Terry

You won't need LVVTA design approval if the car is already certed. Knowbody will know. Just use the spec'd material and get them made by someone with expereince in these things.
Note, in the LVVTA manual, the minimum specs for a seven are on a different page to the regular A arm material specs. You can go down to 19 x 1.6 erw tube on the top arms and 22 x 2 erw on the bottom.
