Chassis material RHS or ERW

Postby steveb » Fri Dec 09, 2016 1:19 pm

so i've been prowling around the build diary's and noticed the use of "blue painted steel" in RHS form. (can ERW be purchase painted?)
what snipets i have from the hobby car manual recommends ERW as a suitable material,(25x25x1.6...)
I would like to ask the chassis builders out there what are they using, RHS has a lower list price than ERW and seems to be in 8 meter lengths, ERW is in 5.5 meter lengths.
Also i have noticed ERW being listed as EWSS, maybe the engineers out there can answer this, what is EWSS?
My thoughts are to use ERW for chassis and suspension components, i don't want the risk of RHS (if there is ??? i don't know?).
maybe the cheaper thinner grades for non stressed supports? brackets etc

Hi,
I'm a newbie to all this as well, but this link provided some valuable insight http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthr ... ?tid=52452
Cheers.
