Re: Wanganui, Mcsorely 442E / MX5

Been working on the mounts for the front guards. Still the front mounting point to finish. Also doing the scuttle cover. . Welding a recess for the bonnet. Normally you would get a plumber with an edge setting tool to roll it. But I was just short on plate and didn't want to buy a whole new sheet to...

Re: Wanganui, Mcsorely 442E / MX5

Knocked up a bracket to mount the spare wheel in my lunch hours at work. Bit ugly but after powder coating orange and the wheel on, won't notice it. My old old car never had a spare and not a flat tyre over 11 years, but I'm mostly using this one for touring so thought I'd better have a spare. https...

Re: Wanganui, Mcsorely 442E / MX5

Been slow progress over the past two weeks having to spend time fixing another car. Just finishing smaller jobs, a bit of painting and tidying wiring. Today made a start on the windscreen making the side stays and next will decide on the height of the screen and make the alloy channel frame. https:/...

Car show

Today was annual park up car show in Wanganui hosted by the Wanganui Road Rodders Club . Easily surpassed the 500 plus cars from last time with a huge variety on display. But where were the 7's ? https://i.postimg.cc/GhJ5cdvZ/IMG-20190407-095305.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/Nfwnq526/IMG-20190407-095858....

Re: Wanganui, Mcsorely 442E / MX5

Sprayed a few coats of paint on the second hand rear guards to bring them up like new, just needing a cut and polish to finish. Bolted on the car and will fit stainless steel stone guards later. Also wired up the front led indicators and daytime lights. I have used a gas soldering iron for years wit...

Re: Wanganui, Mcsorely 442E / MX5

Continuing working on the rear panel. Used 1.2 mm alloy and was by far the hardest panel so far, taking about two weeks of my spare time to form. Using press brake at work for right angle bends and hand beating top edges. Final fitting of lights to do and will make a bracket to hold spare tyre. http...

Re: Wanganui, Mcsorely 442E / MX5

Today started working on the rear panel. Cut some alloy oversize and had a friendly local panel beater roll the corners for free. Always find car guys a friendly bunch , down to earth and willing to help. Clamped to the car , marked and recut closer to the finished size. Fitted to car again and star...

Re: Wanganui, Mcsorely 442E / MX5

This morning worked on the stainless grill . Started off trying to use 5 mm wire but found it very hard to bend. Seamed to work harden. Changed to 4 mm which I bent around a dollie welded to the bench. Tig welded with the 7shield brought earlier off ebay . About two hours work to do. Still to do mou...
