Mid engine design (Rear engine cars?)

Post by steveb » Tue Dec 13, 2016 1:22 pm

other than bzrse7en's 23, are there any other rear engine cars being built. i came across the "midlana" with rear honda power, there is an abundance of fwd engine /trans combos out there.
I saw at my local "pick it" place some small honda and mazda's with a front strut assy similar in design to ford sierra, PCD 100ish mm.
I am thinking this as rwd gearboxes like the t-50 are getting older and harder to find, and break with torque
any thoughts?

With an east - west FWD box, it is rear engined and can be a bit twitchy I believe unless you get things just right, but Nor - south configuration is mid engined and will likely have same weight distribution as a front engined 7 @ around 45% - 55%.
How about a Subaru and transaxle?
The thing is though, many think about a midi, there is logic to the design, but don't want to risk building an uncontrollable or over complicated monster when they know tried and true works.

yes there is the balance thing, it wouldn't be so bad for the left hand drive market. toyota mr2, mrs , lotus elise etc seem to make it work.

This one got my attention. Doesn't look too bad and seems to go quite well. Plus it is AWD, turbo and runs on a BBQ bottle of LPG. Interesting how he has turned the transfer case around to point forward....

nice,
i wonder what other 4wd's this would be possible with? be a bit on the heavy side and getting away from being a simple bare bones car,
less is more. Still quite impressive, good create thinking too!

I should of titled this "mid engined" as opposed to rear engined kit cars.
my error. "changing this now"
