21st March North Canterbury Classic car run

Post by KiwiBirkin » Wed Feb 24, 2010 6:29 pm

I plan on attending this event anyone else ??? .

below is a copy of Toms text from another post with info on the event

Here's an update I recently received re the North Canterbury Classic Car Run. Start is at the Janel coffee lounge New Brighton, gathering any time after 9am. Cost usually $10 per car. I'll post the final update when I receive it.

See ya,

Tom

Well here we are just (a few) weeks to go before our 8th annual North Canterbury Classic Tour, on Sunday March 21st. Unfortunately, The Star newspaper, has gone and shifted it’s “City to Surf” fun run back to the 3rd Sunday in March!! (I checked with them six or so months ago and was told the 28th). x#%@!

This years event could well be the best yet, given a fine day. We have put a lot of work into this one. The 30 questions are all route related or answers can be found at our lunch break, which is a small country village. Food and drinks can be purchased via the P.T.A. of the country school we will be having our lunch at. Please support them. No questions on history or TV programmes as has been in the past, so everybody has an equal opportunity to win subscriptions to New Zealand Classic Car magazine.

Please remember that this event is an all day tour, so fuel up before the day. (No fuel available until about ¾ way through the day!). Finally, our final destination is at a newish North Canterbury café, where every driver and crew member, will be entitled to a free coffee or tea, plus a superb meal discounted down to $11.95. Beer and wine also available.

Same start time and venue as per the past seven years, but details next month.
See you all on the 21st March.

This weekend we are of to take the escort around the track at Taupo with the Fraser car club. It's what Trevor built it for so should be fun. It will be first time on the track, a bit nervous, plan is not to bend the escort. Next year we will have the Fraser going.

I'll be there.

Enjoyed the Twin Rivers charity classic car run yesterday. 200 or so cars, brilliant weather and a real feel-good event with lots of people picnicking under trees along the way with plenty of kids waving and cars honking horns. Peter Allen and his wife Penny were out in their Birkin - the only other '7' after mine. Sadly we spotted them stranded on the side of the road with no go from the engine, but we managed to get them going and hopefully they made it home.

Hi for any one doing on this here is the latest info I recived today

Well, here we are with just one week to go before the 8^th Annual North
Canterbury Classic Tour. We have put a lot of planning and work into
this one. We won?t be pleased if it?s a poor day, weatherwise. (We?ve
just returned from a 14 day tour in Happy Days, our camper, down South.
It was 26-32 every day!).

The Star?s City to Surf is, unfortunately, on the same day, inspire of
us checking months ago with them as to when it was scheduled for! This
means that the route from the start venue to Avon View Retirement
Village, where the question sheet will be handed out, plus a ?new? bonus
for this year, will be quite different from last years route.

If you don?t have time to pack a picnic lunch, the P.T.A. of the primary
school we will be stopping at mid-day, will be selling food and drinks.
(Also, the dairy at the village will be open but please support the
school first and foremost).

The 31 questions on the sheet are all route related, so all crews have
an equal chance of winning a year?s subscription to New Zealand Classic
Car magazine. Also, each driver will be given the January issue at the
start. *(Please depart at the time indicated at the top of your route
sheet. This is important).*

Finally, make sure you have plenty of fuel left before reaching the
lunch break. (There is *no* petrol available here). You _will_ be
passing a Challenge Station not long after leaving the start. March
21^st 9am-10am, Janel Coffee Lounge, Hawke Street, New Brighton,
Christchurch.

Regards
Lorrine & Trevor
