3S-GTE TOY

Post by Zippy » Fri Nov 04, 2011 6:37 pm

Evening all,

My new toy turned up this week, so thought I would post a couple of pics.
The car is a 1991 Chevron Sports running a 3S-GTE, the motor is a full TRD race prepped motor built for running 22psi, currently running 13psi.
The power at the moment is 420hp at the rear wheels, very quick at the moment, would just be silly at 22psi.
The motor is dry sumped and runs a radiator at the back of the car, as a rather large intercooler and oil cooler take up most of the room at the front.
It has a independant rear end running a R32 skyline diff, 11.5 " rotors at the front and big meaty 4 pot callipers.

My plans are to fit another race seat and harness, have the car recertified then rego & wof.
I will then do something with the interior, it has a no frills look going on at the moment, no carpet or any such luxuries.
I have been for a couple of sneaky drives in the last few days, quite a tricky thing to drive as the cams are so aggressive it really doesn't want to go at a constant speed, built for one speed- Fast.

Mudbasher, they are 225/50/15, the guy who originally built the car ( spanners I take it? ) had trouble getting traction in the rear, the guy who I have bought it off, Chris a engineer, has re-done the rear end and it gets traction just fine now.

Zippy 420hp at the rear wheel that is some serious power in a small car like that :o . Good luck with the cert process and great to see another car in the Seven capital of NZ :) .

Wonder if this will prompt Gazzah to skip Stage1 & go straight to Stage2? Is the Fraser that much bigger than a Chevron (re the obvious packaging issues that this has).

Zippy, should be a lot of fun!

_HOW_ many horsies?

My condolences to your future next of kin.

Just Kidding.. .but wow... I know mudbasher was having trouble getting the power to the ground with only 270ish - I can't imagine 420 in something this size and weight.

Post some porn, like a 0-100-0 video :-)

Cheers - N

My old chevron had 40x2mm box chassis rails, but lacked triangulation, so was probably less rigid than a well designed 25x1.6 mm box chassis. Hope this one has heaps of triangles!

I can't imagine what over 400hp would feel like in a lotus-sized vehicle.... That 3s engine must be very trick to make that sort of power with only 13psi... my stock 3sgte gen 4 GT-T motor makes 280hp at the flywheel on 14psi. Is there much turbo lag, and at what rpm does the boost kick in?

You may need the operation to have your cods enlarged.
