Brake systems definitions

Post by boborjim » Sat Sep 26, 2015 10:10 pm

Hi all, I have been looking at the Tech manual for the requirements for a custom pedal box for my Locost. The bit I would like cleared up is the definition on Chapter 8.3.9 b

A custom pedal box assembly fitted to a low volume vehicle must

(b) designed so that a total failure of braking control cannot occur due to any individual component failure.

How far does that definition extend, I guess it the pedal snapped then it would be a total failure....

Anyway your thoughts are welcome.

Cheers.

Consider a weld breaking, design the pedal so if this happens, it will still work.

That's kind of what I was hoping, I have design everything in compression rather than tension so shouldn't be a problem. Cheers
