Re: Electrical issues Series 4

And re the water pump - my water pump was shot and needed rebuilding too, I was too poor to buy the Burton modular water pump conversion kit, but their standard rebuild kit has a ceramic washer which is meant to stop the issue of the seal tearing itself to bits if the car is left standing for a whil...

Re: Electrical issues Series 4

Hi – I’ve done this both ways (split engine / gearbox and together) but the best way to remove them is with the engine and gearbox in one piece, you really need an engine crane with a tilting bar. This is how I’ve done it: - remove bonnet, nuts are inside nose so you need to remove number plate, gri...

Re: Hydro handbrake install...

My only thought is - is there flow to the rear brakes when you press the foot brake! Or will your hydro brake just treat everything upstream of it as a reservoir?

Re: Electrical issues Series 4

"Im pleased Im not relying on this Lemon coloured thing for my daily transport! Thanks in advance for any advice that's not gonna cost me a bomb!" As a mate of mine in the UK had the cheek to tell me "Don't you know what Lotus stands for - Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious" and the b@st@rd drives a TV...

Re: Electrical issues Series 4

I did a write-up on using a Gemini starter:

https://www.lotus7.co.nz/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=3619

Added bonus is they hit the starter ring gear from the other side, so if it's a bit worn you will get longer out of it.

Mine's still going well.

Re: Electrical issues Series 4

I'd definitely change to an alternator, I lucked out and got a Lucas one from a guy selling bits from his Lotus engined Cortina, so it was an easy fit. You remove the old voltage regulator as well, which is pretty straightforward. I'll see if I can find the links I used to understand the changes req...

I'm guessing your car will have the original Lucas distributor like mine, a 25d4 model

Re: Electrical issues Series 4

Mine has the choke connected and it does seem to make starting easy - full choke, two pumps of the accelerator and off it goes. With the chokes open you get to hear lots of air being sucked in, it's noisy. I'll dig up or take a pic but basically the choke cable runs from the dash to the closest carb...
