Maximum sump can sit below the bottom rails

Hey guys was just wondering the Lowest I can go under the bottom rails the sump for the mx5 sits about 75mm below and was wondering if I could get away with this

It can hang out as much as you like 75mm sounds like a bit much though, really depends on the ride height and ground clearance you have (which depends on suspension, wheels and tyres) .

So if have a 120mm ride height then pick a ground clearance of say 70mm (wouldn't want much less than that on nz roads )means you can drop it down about 40-50mm make sure allow room for a sump guard too.

Its not about the height below the rails , its about the ground clearance. You'll need at least 80mm.
An MX5 sump is at the rear of the motor which is not that great as it goes down with the wheels. Front sump is better.
You can remove 25mm from an mx5 sump though.

You will get away with it, right up to the point when you don't.
Can you shorten the sump 30 - 50mm, then add a sump guard?
