Talking with the ECU

Post by Russell » Mon Jan 11, 2010 10:08 pm

I am trying to connect with the ECU using PClink V3.40
and a laptop with a USB to Serial adapter

So far so nothing

Initially Vista looked like the problem with the USB Serial Converter being
installed on Comm 12 but the PClink only looking to Comm 8 although the system
should just check them all

Found a XP laptop and had everything fixed to comm 5 and the cupboard
is still bare

I get the feeling that I am missing something fundamental

Turned the key in the car after serial cable attached
also ran the car just in case it needed that

Serial cable light shows search effort from laptop

How can I check that the flat cable from the ECU is talking to the serial
box under the dash as maybe the last guy looking inside the ECU
used a hand held and did not put the plug back in etc etc

If you have a suggestion it would be a help

Next is to take the laptop and cable to the Auto Electrical guys and say
make this work

but ???

maybe I have missed a step

Mate, I have no idea, but you didn't say what sort of ECU it is.

It's an older version Link Ecu. Perhaps your version of PCLink is too new?
just an idea?

The earlier Link ECU's needed another adapter to work with a PC. The one in my car would only communicate with a Link tuning module, not a PC.... What is the model of your Link??
